Sutton Coldfield Premier Agent Aston Knowles, sponsored Triathlete storms over the finish line at Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire at the weekend to pick up his ticket to the World 70.3 Finals in Zell Am See-Kaprun in Austria later this year.
Local triathlete Ian Dempsey from Aldridge took part in the 70.3 Ironman event on Sunday completing a 1.2-mile swim at Chasewater, a 56-mile bike across Cannock Chase, Lichfield, East Staffordshire and Stafford and a 13.1-mile run, finishing at Shugborough stately home.
Ian completed the track in 4 hrs 27 mins 28 secs and taking home a 1st place Ironman trophy for being the first age grouper back.
Reigning 70.3 World Champion Gomes never looked back, cruising across the finish with a 1h 13m half marathon to finish in a superb 4:02:13.
Among the thousands of age group athletes was celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and his wife Tana, competing together as part of their GR100 fundraising team. Ramsay finished in 5:53:49.
The event which is suspected to have bought in over £2 million for the local economy over the weekend was supported by the local council and cabinet member Mark Winnington, said: “We were thrilled to be the host of the first ever Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire and the inaugural completion certainly didn’t disappoint.
“The event was huge opportunity to showcase what a great county Staffordshire is and I am sure that Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire will be a firm feature for years to come.”

Ian who in the lead up to the World Championships will be making appearances at the annual City of Birmingham triathlon that takes place in Sutton Park on July 19th as well as the British Championships in Liverpool on the 26th July and the London triathlon on 9th August.
