Moving to a new house is exciting \u2013 new opportunities, a new neighbourhood to explore, and the opportunity to furnish and decorate a new home exactly how you like it. However, it can also be a stressful ordeal with trying to pack up a whole life, leave your old home clean and tidy, and arrange for everything to be brought to your new place. Luckily, with some planning ahead, moving does not have to be as stressful as it seems. We have compiled these tips for you to help you make moving the most stress free it can be!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Notify banks, schools, utilities, internet providers etc.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Something that you might not think of until you realise it\u2019s been a while since you\u2019ve read the most recent version of your favourite magazine subscription, is to change over all of your post and inform important accounts and businesses of your new address to avoid missing crucial correspondence.  When setting up a list of companies and authorities to inform make sure to include your bank, schools, utility companies, internet providers, and don\u2019t forget about any newspaper\/magazine subscriptions you might have, your council tax, and your doctor\/dentist. To help you avoid identity theft, it might be worth it to use the Royal Mail redirection service. Royal Mail will then redirect post sent to your old address to your new address for 3, 6, or even 12 months for a small fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Book a Removals Firm as Early as Possible<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      We can\u2019t stress this enough, make sure you plan far enough ahead and get a removals firm booked in. Booking a professional instead of doing it yourself saves you a lot of trouble trying to move your items yourself and will make sure your belongings reach their new destination safely. While you can\u2019t move removals until you\u2019ve exchanged and have a fixed completion date, you can provisionally book and get quotes from different firms. Make sure you do your research, as different companies include different services in their removals quote and remember to think of things like insurance in transit and if VAT is included in the various quotes you obtain. Finally, read others\u2019 reviews of the firm before you book. And then once you\u2019re nearly ready to exchange make sure the firm has availability for the date you want to complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Declutter your home<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Start decluttering your home well in advance of the move. Start with one room and move through your home methodically, one room at a time. Before throwing everything out, decide whether you might still be able to sell or donate some of the unwanted items. Not only will this save you time and effort packing up items you will inevitably get rid off at your new home, your removals fee will be lower as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        1. Start Early and with a System<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          Make sure to start packing well ahead of your move and make sure you have a system when you\u2019re packing. Get all the needed boxes, tapes, and other packing essentials ready and don\u2019t forget to label every box so the moving team knows where to put them at your new property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          1. Start by Packing your Least Used Rooms<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            It\u2019s a good idea to start packing your least used rooms first. This allows you plenty of time for the rooms that will need more attention or that you might not be able to pack up until just before the move. So start with the garage, the attic, or the spare room and get a head start on decluttering and cleaning. You\u2019ll be surprised at home much stuff you actually have that needs putting away! This way you\u2019ll have more time to pack up more essential rooms like the living room and kitchen shortly before your move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            1. Pack a Box of Essentials<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

              This tip might not seem as important as the ones listed above, but when it comes to moving day you will be very happy with your box of essentials! The box should be filled with items you will need immediately after you move into your new property. Think of items such as toilet paper, teabags, mugs, bin bags, and toothpaste and toothbrushes. Make sure to keep it with your during transit to avoid the essentials box getting mixed up with your other boxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
