Why not use this time to get your garden ready for spring? Follow the tips below to prepare your garden, and you will be able to enjoy a stunning outdoor space later. Getting a head start on nurturing your gardens is the ideal way to pass the time and relieve a bit of the virus anxiety, as well as get you excited for the summer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Cleaning up & General Inspection<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    While you might want to start straightaway and dig in, it is really important to inspect your garden first. Use this moment of reflection to make a to-do list of everything that catches your eye and needs addressing. Checking for winter weeds is an important step not to miss out. Even if you weeded really well before winter started, chances are some weeds will still have got through. And you don\u2019t want to end up with a garden full of weeds come summer! While weeding, you can have a general tidy and remove leaves and debris from flower beds and borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Make sure to check your fences, raised garden beds, and garden furniture before you start planting. This is the ideal time to fix what is broken. You don\u2019t want your raised garden beds to come apart halfway through July!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Make a Plan<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Planning which plants you want to go where, and where you are going to plant your vegetable patch if you are growing your own veg this year, is another crucial step you don\u2019t want to skip. You might want to mix certain perennial flowers with annuals so you keep colour in your garden throughout the season. Also keep height in mind, you don\u2019t want taller plants to block shorter ones from getting their sun!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Give Your Lawn Some TLC<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Give your lawn a good inspection to see if there is any moss or weeds that you need to get rid of. You might need to seed a new lawn, and if you do, now is the best time to do so! Make sure to feed it with lawn fertiliser if you do decide to seed a new lawn. If you decide you don\u2019t need to, give it a good cut, but don\u2019t cut off too much at once! If the blades are really high, cut it regularly, so you reduce the length a little at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        1. Shape up Those Shrubs<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          This is the ideal time to cut those evergreen shrubs and hedges that have grown out of shape over the autumn and winter period back into shape. Pruning them in spring will promote growth, especially if you help them along with some mulching and feeding!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          1. Start Sowing<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            Some plants might need a longer growing season, so it is a good idea to start thinking about the new plants you want to introduce in your garden this year so you can get a head start on growing them. This is especially true if you are hoping to grow some of your own vegetables this year. Examples of plants that you want to start growing in a heated propagator now are begonias, peppers, and aubergines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
