Haselour Hall in Tamworth

We can’t write an article about amazing castles without mentioning our very own Haselour Hall: an extraordinary Elizabethan residence with private chapel, set in grounds of 10 acres and on the market with Aston Knowles. This remarkable home is steeped in history, dating back to the sixteenth century. With over 19,000 square foot in area, the hall boasts extensive living, sleeping and working accommodation complemented throughout by magnificent original features dating back to c1550. The name Haselour is Saxon in origin and derives from the word hazelnut, chosen because of the large number of hazelnut trees grown on and around the land. Within the grounds of the hall are a number of outbuildings, including stables, garages and storerooms, as well as a self-contained three-bedroom annexe and beautiful private chapel, still in use today.

Incredible Moated Castle in Staffordshire

Close to home, this historic Grade-I listed moated castle in Staffordshire features three separate converted turrets and a converted gatehouse, all ideal for use as a holiday let. The extensive grounds of 21 acres feature stunning landscaped gardens with beautiful lakes and paddock land. But the inside of this castle is just as impressive as the exterior. The spacious castle features many original features, as well as an old dungeon, wine cellar and orangery, as well as eight bedrooms and potential for a separate apartment/owners annexe.

Spectacular Medieval Castle in France

This medieval fortified castle dates from the 11th-15th centuries and looks like it fell straight out of a fairy tale book. It is positioned high above a valley in France, occupying a defensive position between Chambery and Albertville. Steeped in history, this beautiful castle features amazing south-facing views across the valley towards the Alps. A historical monument, the fortress is set in grounds of 1 hectare and features a dungeon, sentry’s walk, towers, stables, and its own chapel. Just look at that view!

Gothic Castle on the Isle of Man

This amazing gothic design castle is another slice of history, dating from circa 1830 and occupying a commanding position on Douglas Head overlooking the bay, this beautiful property enjoys amazing privacy and is set in mature walled grounds of three acres. The castle has been carefully renovated, and features three bedrooms in the main residence with potential for five, as well as a three-bedroom guest coach house, two-bedroom cottage, and formal gardens with a walkway down to South Quay.

A Legendary Scottish Castle

One of our favourites on this list, Seton Castle in East Lothian dates back to the 18th century and is set in an expansive 13 acres of parkland and gardens. The castle is home to thirteen bedrooms and boasts working stables and its own private tavern. Its historic past is clear in the many secret staircases, curved doors and walls, arched windows, and even hidden doors. If that isn’t enough material for your imagination, the castle is also said to have links to Mary Queen of Scots, who is said to have caused a scandal by playing golf at Seton in 1568 following the suspicious death of her husband Lord Darnley..

Centuries Old Royal Castle

This stately home was owned by the Royal family for 500 years before it was sadly destroyed during the English Civil War in 1648. However it has been fully restored, with the current structure now dating from the 1830s. The Grade-I listed castle is on the edge of a of picturesque market town in Wiltshire and features no less than nine bedrooms. The property features a multitude of original features, such as richly decorate high ceilings, stone mullioned windows, and detailed archways. It is a stunning blend of classic charm and modern home.
